Research Interests
Primary:
Pattern recognition, information fusion, clustering, image processing and computer vision (CV), uncertainty (e.g., fuzzy set theory and approximate reasoning), linguistic summarization of human activity from video, stereo vision and mixed image/voxel CV, and computational intelligence

Secondary:
Machine learning, robotics, real-time computer graphics, shader languages, stream processing and Graphics Processor Units (GPUs) and procedural content generation

Detection of Explosive Hazards in Forward Looking Imagery

Work in conjunction with the University of Missouri (we are a sub), while the project is ultimately funded by the Army Research Office (ARO) and supported by US Army Night Vision and Electronics Sensors Directorate (NVESD) Countermine Division

Pattern recognition, fusion and computer vision in the context of visual spectrum imagery (color), infrared (short, mid and long) and forward looking ground penetrating radar (FLGPR)

[Past Funding]
I was funded by the national library of medicine (NLM) as a pre-doc fellow for 4 and 1/2 years

NLM funded me to research linguistic summarization of human activity from video for well-being monitoring and elder care

Frameworks for producing summarized linguistic descriptions of human activity for domain experts (a form of human computer interaction)

Also resulted in automatic detection strategies (classifiers for activity recognition from linguistic descriptions)

Also produced activity description protoforms that were of use subsequently in computing (recognizing and describing higher levels of activity)

Vision work was wide and included -> low level change detection, "mixed" image and world space (voxel) detection and recognition methods, three dimensional (voxel) scene reconstructions and automatic segmentation

Higher level work is focused on computational intelligence

Currently working on expanding this work for the area of Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs)

I have active research in clustering, namely cluster validity -> "Comparing Fuzzy, Probabilistic, and Possibilistic Partitions" in IEEE TFS

Working with a colleague at the University of Missouri on hyper spectral remote sensing clustering validity -> "Spectral Unmixing Cluster Validity Index for Multiple Sets of Endmembers" (under review by IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing)
